11:00 am update: court is adjourned.

After the morning recess the state told the Judge that due to unforeseen circumstances they are asking that court be adjourned for the day. Judge Boyce has dismissed court for the day and they are now adjourned. Court will resume tomorrow morning.

10:30 am update: Lt. Powell testifies.

Lt. Powell with Fremont County Sheriff's Office was the next to testify. Powell first learned about Lori when Gilbert Police reached out about a suspected homicide of Charles Vallow. They were looking for a Jeep with Texas license plates. Powell testified that he was then involved in surveilling Chad and Lori and their suspicions were raised after Tammy died under suspicious circumstances as a younger woman in seemingly good health. Then when Chad was seen holding hands and kissing Lori just a week after Tammy's death police became very suspicious.

Powell was part of the team that exhumed Tammy Daybell's body. Defense did not have any questions for Powell and the Lt. has been excused.

9:55 am update: Lt. Jared Willmore testifies

Lt. Jared Willmore of Madison County Sheriff's Office took the stand. He's worked there for nearly 20 years. Willmore said he's the captain over the Madison County Jail and oversees the phone system used by inmates to communicate with friends, family. A thumb drive containing a call between Lori and Chad was admitted into the record. Willmore has monitored many calls between Lori and Chad. The call between Chad and Lori was time stamped on the same date the search was made on Chad Daybell's property, where the bodies of JJ and Tylee were found.

In the call, Chad tells Lori that police are on the property searching. Chad says, "We'll see what transpires," and "I love you so much," to Lori. Lori says she loves him and asks if she should call him later. Chad responds, "I don't know," and he'll try to answer if he can.

The defense had no more questions for Willmore. Lt. Joe Powell from Fremont County Sheriff's Office is up next.

9:25 am update: Hermosillo cross-examination continues.

Detective Hermosillo who was on the stand all of yesterday testifying to the investigation and discovery of JJ and Tylee's bodies buried on Chad Daybell's property has returned to the stand this morning so defense counsel could complete their cross-examination. The questions from cross appeared to primarily be points of clarification, although one moment late yesterday did seem to underscore a minor victory for the defense when they asked the detective if he knew where Lori was on the day Tammy Daybell died, Hermosillo replied "she was in Hawaii."

The defense finished cross-examination and the prosecution requested a brief redirect of the witness. Detective Hermosillo has been excused and next up to the stand is Lt. Jared Willmore of the Madison County Sheriff's Department.
